The role  

This full-time, permanent position is based at Regional House, Palmerston North or our Kairanga Depot and is focused on leading a team of experienced project engineers and project managers who are passionate about effective management of programmed works within our region.  

As a Team Leader you will be responsible for leading and mentoring the team and will work alongside other Team Leaders and the Freshwater and Projects Manager. You will have technical oversight of all aspects of the delivery of a capital work programme for the river management and flood protection activity and other specific projects as required. In addition to this, you’ll manage budgets, procurement and reporting for projects, coordinate internal and external input to projects and engagement for projects. Ensuring compliance with relevant regulatory requirements in all the works we undertake will be key to successful project delivery as will ensuring workloads are appropriately prioritised, and decisions are of a high quality.

About you 

You will be a people-focused person with excellent relationship management skills, and the ability to work collaboratively with internal and external stakeholders. A tertiary qualification in Civil Engineering at a minimum level of NZCE or equivalent, and relevant experience is a must for this role. As is a full driver’s licence as this role will see you regularly visiting project sites to review progress and facilitate effective project delivery. 

Ideally you will have regional government and contract management experience and proven experience leading and mentoring staff. An understanding of relevant legislation and NZ standards and their practical application, a working knowledge in Health and Safety and outstanding communication skills will also make you stand out above the crowd.
