The role 

We are currently seeking a highly motivated individual, with demonstrated expertise in freshwater science and people management, who is committed to supporting their team and delivering great outcomes for the Horizons region. 

The role will have you leading and working alongside a team of scientists to develop and implement scientific research. This work will support policy development, implementation and informs responses to environmental issues across this large and diverse region. 

Our science is strongly linked with national research programmes and the information gathered contributing to cutting-edge regional and national research programmes. 

This permanent full-time position, based in Palmerston North, is part of the Science team.

About you

The successful candidate will have previous experience in freshwater science and a proven ability to lead people.  You should have a good understanding of the Resource Management Act and National Policy Statement for Freshwater Management. You will also have: 

  • Leadership skills that enable collaboration with the team.
  • Proven success in interpreting and communicating scientific      information in an engaging and informative way.
  • Proven project management skills.
  • An understanding of Mātauranga Māori, the Treaty of Waitangi, and tikanga (and Te Reo ability), or willingness to learn.
  • Experience in lake, estuary or coastal water quality is desirable.
