The Role

As caretakers of the expansive regions as mentioned above, Horizons Regional Council offers you a diverse and challenging environment to put your practical skills to good use.

We have an outstanding opportunity for a motivated and committed Skilled Labour to join our River Management Team reporting to the Works Supervisor and based at our Kairanga Service Centre near Palmerston North. 

You will join a close knit team responsible for river and drainage activities in our region. This is an opportunity to have in-depth involvement in the many and varied projects focussed on keeping people and property safe from flooding. As a skilled labourer, you will be responsible for various manual tasks, operation of light plant and equipment, maintenance of flood control and drainage assets, plant and structures. In addition, you will assist our engineers with the inspection and reporting on the condition of the infrastructural assets within the area. 

About you

We are looking for an experienced labourer who has proven skills in undertaking without supervision a variety of manual tasks, operating equipment and ideally has experience with light plant.

  • Be reliable and punctual with good communication skills
  • Have knowledge of the Health and Safety legislation with a commitment to safety
  • Hold a current full drivers’ licence
