The Role

Due to vacancies across the team, we are currently looking for one Senior Consents Monitoring Officer and two Consents Monitoring Officers to join our innovative, dynamic and high achieving Rural and Primary Industries Consents Monitoring Team based in Palmerston North. We are looking for a Senior / Consents Monitoring Officers in the following fields of work: 

  • Agricultural Monitoring, including farm dairy effluent, piggeries, goats and poultry 
  • Horticultural activities; and 
  • Nutrient Management 

As a Consents Monitoring Officer or Senior Consents Monitoring Officer, you will be responsible for assessing whether activities are complying with the Resource Management Act 1991 (RMA). 

To this end you will be responsible for assessing whether holders of resource consents are complying with their obligations, responding to pollution events and undertaking investigations in relation to alleged breaches of the Resource Management Act 1991 (RMA).

About you

To be successful in this role you will ideally have: 

  • A tertiary qualification in environmental science and/or experience in environmental management of agricultural/horticultural operations.  
  • Experience in compliance monitoring of the RMA or other legislation.
  • The ability to critically assess and analyse information. 
  • The ability to exercise judgement and initiative whilst working within a regulatory framework.
  • Proven skills in the areas of project management, written and verbal communication and facilitation, experience or an understanding of working within Te ao Māori.
