The role 

We are looking for a highly motivated, self-driven person to join our Freshwater and Projects team within the Catchment Operations Group at Horizons Regional Council. This is a full-time, permanent position based in Palmerston North and/or Kairanga. You will be assisting in the development of future river management lines, and the role that gravel management plays in the development of these lines. This work will inform conversations with the community around future river management options. You will work on rivers and with iwi, and communities across the region.

About you 

To be successful in this position, a working knowledge of river morphological processes, gravel movement and the role that gravel plays in sustainable river management will be needed. Candidates should hold a relevant Bachelor degree or hold a relevant undergraduate certificate or diploma plus at least two years direct industry experience in a relevant environmental management discipline.

A strong background in data management and geospatial data (GIS) will be essential, as will good interpersonal, communication and organisational skills. A full driver licence is necessary and experience with four wheel drive vehicles is preferred. You will be working with a mix of internal staff, analysing and providing outputs that will need to be of a high quality to inform conversations with scheme committees, iwi, landowners, and Councillors. This information will be used to inform the future management of rivers in a sustainable manner.

As well as having sound technical knowledge you will be solution focused in all aspects of the role.  You will have the ability to build strong relationships with staff and have a positive and friendly attitude.
