The role

We are seeking a motivated Ecologist to join the Science team in the Strategy, Regulation, and Science group as a Research Associate for Ecology. This is a permanent position located in Palmerston North.

Do you want to be a part of a science team answering the tough questions in environmental management? In this role you will work in the Manawatū-Whanganui region to provide ecological technical support including ecological data collection, processing, quality assurance and analysis, wetland mapping, and communicating scientific information to a range of audiences.

About you

Suitable candidates should have a passion for the natural environment, particularly ecology, and would ideally hold or be working towards a post-graduate qualification, Bachelor of Science or similar degree in a relevant natural science. Knowledge of terrestrial ecology, wetland ecology, and environmental management is preferred, as is an ability to confidently communicate scientific information to the public. Skills and experience in GIS are preferred, but not essential, as we will provide training for the right candidate. The successful candidate will require a full driver’s license. There is an expectation that you will actively uphold the values of Te Tiriti O Waitangi (Treaty of Waitangi) and be aware of the cultural significance of the region to local iwi, hapū, whānau and tangata whenua corporations.
