Horizons Regional Council is seeking an experienced and highly motivated Environmental Data Analyst to join our Environmental Data Department. This role is crucial in supporting our flood forecasting, water resource management, and environmental monitoring programs. The Department is responsible for the collection, verification and management of continuous environmental observations and measurements, including river flow, rainfall, groundwater, air quality and water quality in accordance with the National Environmental Monitoring Standards.
This position offers a unique opportunity to utilize your strong analytical and computational skills to contribute to evidence-based information delivery for decision-making. A primary focus of the role will be in providing data and information services, assisting with the development and implementation of hydrological models for flood forecasting and water resource allocation. This role includes designing and maintaining complex models, analysing large datasets, and developing innovative digital tools to enhance data collection, management, and analysis and information delivery. Accurate and timely data is required for resource management, water allocation, consent monitoring, engineering design and flood warning. Our Environmental Data Analysts ensure the integrity of information and data provided to both internal and external stakeholders.
As an Environmental Data Analyst, you will:
To be successful in this role, you will possess at a minimum a Bachelor’s degree, preferably a Master’s degree, in hydrology, statistics, engineering, environmental science, applied information science or related field, OR 10 years relevant work experience.
A strong analytical foundation and proven ability working with environmental and time-dependent data are highly desirable. Familiarity with environmental monitoring and hydrological and hydraulic modelling techniques is also advantageous.
