The Horizons region extends over 22,200km2 – from Ruapehu in the north and Horowhenua in the south, to Whanganui in the west and Tararua in the east. The role 

This is a permanent part-time position of 20 hours per week, based in our Palmerston North office.  

The role of District Advice is about providing essential information that affects the development of proposals for matters such as individual properties, subdivisions, district plans, large dams and other related development. The role also provides information to help with property related decisions e.g. buying or selling, insurance and valuations etc. District Advice prepares information requests by coordinating experts’ advice from across council, gathering various forms of geospatial data (including preparing maps), to provide consistent and useful information to the customer. Information includes natural hazard advice, and other regional council matters that may be crucial to land development such as relevant Horizons One Plan Policy / Rules.  

About you

Do you have great relationship, communication and organisational skills as well as having some experience either in natural hazard management, Resource Management Act and/or the Building Act?  The successful applicant will have experience with:

  • Geographic Information Systems (GIS) or other map viewing systems 
  • Ability to retrieve, display, and interpret geospatial data and information. 
  • Ideally also have the ability to manage and maintain service portals or electronic databases for customer requests.

This exciting and challenging role works internally across Horizons internal groups and the Region’s councils as well as directly with members of the public. Its function is important for helping inform land use and property related decisions which contribute to creating a resilient and sustainable regional community.
