The Horizons region extends over 22,200km2 – from Ruapehu in the north and Horowhenua in the south, to Whanganui in the west and Tararua in the east. It’s a landscape as vast and varied as the over 240,000 people who call it home. At Horizons Regional Council we work to make our region a great place to live, work and play.

The role 

This position is focused on empowering communities to reconnect with, and improve biodiversity. The role also contributes to the delivery of a broader biodiversity programme across the Region. Ideally the position would be based in Marton, Whanganui, or Palmerston North – however other locations could be negotiated.

About you

Do you have a passion for biodiversity?

We are currently seeking a Biodiversity Advisor - Community to work alongside our small but energetic biodiversity team inspiring people throughout the Region to engage with our Region’s biodiversity. 

Skills and experience in organising events and engaging communities are essential, as is an understanding of ecological processes. Suitable candidates should hold a Bachelor of Science or similar degree. Candidates with experience in preparing public relations material are preferred.

This permanent position will provide a mix of office and field based work throughout our region, working with a wide variety of people. If you are passionate about indigenous biodiversity, and are adept at sharing knowledge and inspiring others, and enjoy being part of a dynamic team - this may be the role for you.

A full drivers’ licence is essential and experience with four wheel drive vehicles is preferred.
