The role  

We’re looking for an experienced Assets and Facilities Advisor to help manage the day-to-day operation of our commercial buildings and facilities based at our Palmerston North office. This full time permanent role plays a key part in ensuring our assets are well-maintained, sustainable, and aligned with the goals of MWRC Holdings Ltd and Horizons Regional Council. 

This is a varied and hands-on role that spans relationship management, lease administration, contractor coordination, procurement support, asset system management, project support, and long-term asset planning. You’ll work across a diverse property portfolio, support tenants and building users, and help drive effective asset planning, budgeting, and project delivery. If you enjoy variety, problem solving, and building strong working relationships, this role offers an exciting opportunity to make a real difference. 

You’ll be responsible for: 

  • Supporting asset planning, long-term strategies, and budgeting. 
  • Coordinating maintenance schedules, contractors, and service providers. 
  • Assisting with procurement and contract management for our properties. 
  • Managing leases, fostering positive tenant relationships, and ensuring compliance. 
  • Providing advice on cost-effective repairs and maintenance solutions. 
  • Contributing to small property projects and supporting larger-scale developments. 
  • Ensuring asset data is accurate and up to date in our asset management system. 
  • Supporting risk management and health & safety initiatives.

About you 

You’re an experienced asset or facilities management professional who thrives in a hands-on, varied environment. You’re proactive, solution-oriented, and skilled at building positive relationships with tenants, contractors, and internal teams. 

To excel in this role, you’ll bring: 

  • At least 5 years of experience in asset or facilities management. 
  • A relevant tertiary qualification (or willing to or working towards one). 
  • Strong experience in contract management and procurement. 
  • An understanding of asset planning, project management, and budgeting. 
  • Excellent communication skills - both written and verbal. 
  • A proven ability to manage relationships and solve problems effectively. 

Ideally, you’ll also have: 

  • Experience in Local Government settings. 
  • A good understanding of business continuity and quality systems. 
  • Full driving licence.
