About us  

Manawatū-Whanganui Local Authority Shared Services (MW LASS) was established to support strategic collaboration between councils within the Region. Archives Central has been set up under MW LASS to maximise collaboration for the storage and management of councils’ archives and provide access to the public.

The role  

We are seeking a motivated individual who is interested in archives and history to join our small team of professionals based in Feilding. We provide a range of access and advice services to the public and council staff, both in person and via our remote reference service.  This is a full time position (40 hours per week) based in Feilding.  

The key tasks of Archives Assistant includes the following tasks: 

  • Answering council and public research requests; 
  • Assisting with accessioning council archives; 
  • Digitisation of records and images; and, 
  • Creation and uploading of records to our digital repository.

About you 

The successful applicant will be able to demonstrate the following skills: 

  • Ability to perform in-depth research; 
  • A customer-focused approach to solving problems; 
  • Ability to use digitisation tools such as cameras and scanners; 
  • Experience with excel spreadsheets, metadata and digital repositories; 
  • Archives and/or Records Management knowledge; and, 
  • A bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience.

You will possess and enthusiastic, can-do attitude and be an integral part of a dedicated archives team.
