The role 

We are seeking a motivated and detail-oriented Accounting Officer (Receivables) to join our team on a full-time, fixed-term basis, covering an internal secondment for a period of 10 months from approximately June 2026 to April 2027.

This role offers hands-on experience and the chance to either build your skills or apply your existing expertise in a dynamic environment.

As part of our team, you’ll play a key role in supporting the organisation’s financial operations while also providing excellent service to staff across the council. This is primarily an administration-focused role that requires strong attention to detail and confidence working with numbers. You’ll be part of a supportive and collaborative team within Horizons Regional Council, contributing to the smooth running of our accounts receivable function and supporting staff across the organisation.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Prepare and issue accurate invoices in a timely manner.
  • Process and allocate incoming payments.
  • Manage accounts receivable processes and maintain accurate records.
  • Reconcile accounts and resolve discrepancies.
  • Follow-up on outstanding accounts and support collections activities.
  • Provide support and guidance to staff regarding accounts processes.
  • Assist with reporting and support the wider Finance team as required.

About you 

  • Strong attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Confidence working with numbers and financial data.
  • Excellent interpersonal and customer service skills.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with a wide range of stakeholders.
  • Strong organisational and time management skills.
  • A proactive, “can-do” attitude and ability to work independently.
  • Solid administrative or office experience.
  • Good Microsoft Office skills (particularly Excel); experience with accounting systems is an advantage.
